Bidding

Several bids make up an auction aimed at finding a contract at the right level.

The system of bidding used here is 'Standard English' common in British bridge clubs derived from ACOL.

Bidding cards used for duplicate bridge. The first bid other than 'PASS' is the 'Opening Bid' any bid after this must be higher in the ranking order.

Each bid carries two sorts of information:

  1. The points in the hand
  2. The shape of the hand

Think of the bidding as a conversation.
