Responding with a No Trump bid

with a balanced hand an no support for partners suit then you can use a NT response to describe your points.

With 6 point you must respond.
With 0 to 5 you must pass

Set the Limit

As with direct support of partners suit your bid in NT can tell your partner at what level your points allow.

The limit ranges are the same as for suit support and all are limit bids.

Points Raise Bidding
6-9 single 1H - 1NT
10-12 double (inviting) 1H - 2NT
13-15 Triple ( guaranteed game) 1H - 3NT

Hands 1-3 are straightforward as there is no other suit which offers any great interest.

Hand 4 needs a comment. This may be a balanced hand but did you notice you have 4 hearts, support partners suit.
