The game of Contract Bridge evolved from Whist and has proved to be an enduring and popular pastime that has been around since the early 1900.

It can be played at all levels, from domestic bridge to highly competitive international tournaments.

The more you play the more fascinating it can become.

These pages are intended as an introduction and practice for beginners and intermediate players. If you complete this course you will feel comfortable playing at a local bridge club the rest is up to you.

The Aim of Bridge

A pairs game in which you and your partner play against another pair.

The 'contract' is determined during an 'auction' where the players bid for a trump suit, Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades or 'no trump'. This determines both the denomination and the number of tricks.

Each declared trick won earns points. If you do not make the declared contract you give the opposition points.
